Noise Monitoring Equipment
Occupational health risks are a major concern for the construction industry and sites should be making every effort to ensure their workers’ safety. The main risks involved in construction work are exposure to excessive dust and noise.
See the examples below for how one site addressed noise levels:
- The site worked with a local specialist sound monitoring company (PULSAR) to adapt the design of noise monitoring equipment for use on construction sites.
- The equipment is tripod mounted and gives a visual indication when the pre-set safe noise level thresholds have been reached.
- It then indicates when ear protection is needed to enter a designated cutting area or other defined noisy activity zone on site.
- The equipment has recording facilities enabling data analysis to review working methods and equipment and support improvement in noise reduction.
This system will remind operatives when they need to wear ear protection, thus minimising the risk of long-term hearing damage.
