One of the hardest parts of sustainability is often communicating it in an approachable way to stakeholders. Within the construction sector, the onsite trades are the driving force behind good environmental management, whether it be reducing onsite energy and water consumption, only using certified timber, or reporting and cleaning up incidents.
To better communicate CWCL’s company values and targets, we developed a suite of onsite signage. It consists of 20 unique signs conveying a range of information, from spill procedures through to protecting local watercourses and wildlife. In total, approximately 600 A4 signs have been designed, printed, and put up across CWCL’s construction sites throughout London.
As well as onsite signage, CWCL also developed A0 notice boards to go on display in the welfare blocks which display various catalogs of information, including:
- Local amenities around the site, including post offices, banks, barbers, nurseries, etc
- A green travel plan unique to each site, outlining the locations of tube and bus stops, as well as Boris bike racks
- The latest CCS Monitor score and report
- Company certificates and policies
- Sustainability team photo and contact details
- A ‘Latest News’ feature which can be updated regularly and used to run various campaigns, such as saving money at home through better energy management
There is also a project performance indicator, which ranks the project from A-G depending on performance against 5 metrics – water consumption, energy consumption, FSC timber use, waste recycling rate, and CCS score. This score is translated into a graphic similar to EPC charts.
