Primary School Partnership

The Broadgate Community Legacy looks to utilise the opportunity of a 10 year redevelopment framework (1FA sites within this) to have a long-lasting, positive social impact on local communities.

Although introduced for construction, it has the ethos that ‘legacy starts at the beginning’ and sets out ways of ensuring that the community benefits it produces continue post-construction.

Education is a key element for focusing on ways to engage young people positively through all key stages, aspiring young people to consider careers in construction. Following engagement with the local EBP, Hoxton Garden Primary School was identified as a partner and a strategic plan developed featuring a series of activities that would support the school curriculum.

Over the first year, this included:

• Time capsules with pupils asked to write letters to their future selves to be stored inside. They were then invited to the ceremony when the capsule was buried in the grounds.
• 14 workshops were held, made up with 38 volunteer hours, totally nearly £4,000 investment (direct and indirect).
• 15 volunteers involved all reporting positively on their experience saying it provided them with the opportunity to pass on their passion and knowledge to the next generation.
