Electric Battery Powered Rail Drill
On the Angerstein project, Balfour Beatty Rail Ltd and ETE have started using an electric powered rail drill from the company Cembre. The drill is NWR approved as opposed to the petrol alternatives which most companies use.
The operatives have found many benefits from using this technology.
Health benefits include:
- A reduction in HAVS values from the petrol drill to electric drill.
- A pressure activated LED system that indicates if the correct pressure is being used. This allows the drill to last longer as they are not subject to excessive pressure and ensures HAVS values supplied are correct.
- Quicker drill time due to increased torque, reducing the time HAVS are accrued for.
Safety benefits include:
- 100% reduction in the danger of petrol spillages.
- Reduced fire risks.
- A small task light that lights up the area the drill is clamped to.
Environmental benefits include:
- A reduction in risk to the environment.
- A reduction in noise, therefore there are fewer complaints in the residential areas.
- No fumes from the petrol engines which makes them suitable for working in enclosed environments such as tunnels.
