The project team has partnered with a local school, Carline Learning Centre, which facilitates the education of young people aged between 13 and 17 who have been excluded from, or are no longer in, mainstream education.

The school is privately funded and relies on funding from different organisations. The Mountpark Baldonnell site team carry out repair works for the school free of charge and organised a site visit for the students. Kevin Dolan (Design Manager), Thomas O’ Doherty (Project Manager) and Éadaoin Curran (Site Engineer) gave presentations on what is involved in running a construction project and showed the students around the site.

They also discussed the different career opportunities that the construction industry offers and the pathways that can be taken into construction. Following on from the visit, two of the students have expressed interest in taking up apprenticeships in construction. mac-group have helped support Carline Learning Centre in their mission to encourage students to take a positive role in society by showing them that they do have opportunities and a career in construction can open many doors.

Inspiring the next generation is at the heart of mac-group as we recognise that as the population grows, so does the demand for housing, improved infrastructure and commercial building. mac-group will continue to do their bit to encourage young people to take up a career in the construction industry, by visiting schools and colleges, providing placement opportunities and attending careers fairs.
