Encon Construction are delighted to announce the launch of our ‘Women into Construction Career Changers’ project. Working in partnership with Cardiff Community Housing Association, Chwarae Teg, Glamorgan Construction Training Group, the Home Builders Federation and Acorn Recruitment, the Career Changers project is a two-and-a-half-year programme funded by CITB to address the need to increase the number of women working in trade roles.
However, Encon believe attracting women into construction is only part of the problem. This is why the Career Changers programme will also work with leaders and managers across the industry to challenge the status quo and long held notion of presenteeism equating to output. The project will offer free Agile Organisation and Unconscious Bias Training, whilst also actively supporting career changers and their host companies to implement flexible working arrangements that will ultimately widen the talent pool.
For an industry with skills shortages, making construction an accessible option for those who are unable to engage in full-time traditional office hours is essential and overdue. We are the first SME in Wales to have been awarded a CITB commission, and Encon are thrilled to be working on such an inspiring project that has the potential to transform the way the industry works, and the lives of all who engage with it.
