Employing Quality People Locally

The project team are working collaboratively with Swansea City Council to employ local labour wherever possible. The CSR Manager has teamed up with an employee of Acorn Recruitment to run their new ‘Prepare to Work’ course.

The CSR Manager of the contractor and the recruitment company run monthly sessions with local people who attend employment groups in the area in order to get a quality workforce from local residents.

Opportunities to meet with management and other employees onsite, together with a site tour/platform viewing of the arena, bridge and residential areas are all part of the venture to give a meaningful introduction to working with the team. Those who aren’t quite ready are instructed with tasks to equip them with the requirements to work on the project such as tips on interviews, CVs which are are all part of the course.

Those they feel are ready for employment use this as a stepping stone directly onto the site. To date over a third of the workforce are local residents.
