Podcast for the Next Generation

This contractor is passionate about ensuring that they encourage the next generation to join the industry especially to overcome the current skills shortage the industry is experiencing.

As a result of the pandemic it has made it very difficult for them to provide talks and events within the local, and as a result they have developed a podcast with support from Constructing Excellence South West.

In this podcast they interview industry professionals about their career to date, day to day activities, career highlights etc. to provide students with insight about the different roles, the processes, removing of any stereotypical views; and of course to showcase the endless opportunities the industry has to offer.

The contractor has sent links for the podcasts to the local schools careers advisor every month and these have been listened to by a number of students and are shared in assemblies.

The contractor has been stopped by students on countless occasions asking questions about the podcast, the industry, requests for certain roles in the industry (archaeologists, planners, estimators) and even if work experience is a possibility.

They also have put a QR Code on their notice board outside of the site to ensure that others can also listen, and have found that following a recent school show case evening some attendees had also listened, which is important as they need to not only target senior school ages but influence the year 5&6s.
