The contractor and a local paddle boarding group have undertaken the task of removing plastic waste from the local rivers and estuaries, these areas which are regularly cleaned are areas which are not easily assessable to others and so as a result the ecosystems of these rivers and estuaries have suffered.
By using paddleboards, they have been able to remove tons of waste over the last year by undertaking river cleans monthly where 20-30 volunteers meet in all weathers and temperatures to paddle in marshland where plastic waste accumulates where there is little or no access to the public.
They remove waste in areas dependent on time of year when they are not disturbing nesting birds especially swans on the rivers, and have moved on to cleaning the estuaries. This is a much vaster area and therefore they will be transporting large amounts of waste down the estuary to pick up points which are arranged with the local councils to pick up the waste so that the waste does not become someone’s else issue.
