Dust Suppression System

The site team noticed that during waste collection (using a compactor) there was a large amount of dust being produced when the bins were being loaded into the compactor, they had already implemented RPE for operatives working direct with the activity but thought they could reduce the risk even further.

The contractor got together with the supply chain to figure out how they could improve the situation for the operatives on site, as well as local residents. The teams devised a free-standing water mist dust suppression system that can be deployed when the waste collection vehicle turns up for collections.

The traditional method of using a normal water hose to wet down the operation wasn’t very effective. It also meant that the waste was potentially heavily saturated with water increasing the tonnage of the waste being removed which could have a negative impact on the site waste figures. The new system reduces water usage for the operation by 50% and also ensures the site waste figures are kept to a minimum.
