Ringed Pin Joiner

The initiative is a proprietary steel pin used to join scaffold beams together by inserting through both the beam and a spigot. This steel pin has been developed to include a welded steel washer allowing the user to make a physical connection (tether) when installing this at height.

The commitment of the project team is to eliminate the chance of dropped materials when working at height in high-risk environments. The pins they are using are a proprietary product which have been manufactured for use with a specific Layher HD Beam. Whilst they had a tether solution for the beam and spigot itself, the pin provided no physical features in which they could make a connection.

They worked with their scaffolding contractor and progressed through stages of R&D to find a practical solution to tether the pin. After the back and forth of several ideas and careful consideration, a joint decision was made decided to go with a welded ring which allowed for a physical connection to made.

The welded pin was put through destructive testing as part of a quality control check.
