AMPD Battery Unit to Power Entire Site
The facilities on this site would generally need a generator in order to run the equipment required or a temporary electric connection, which would be quite time consuming.
The contractor is therefore using an ‘AMPD’ battery bank to avoid the need to bring on a generator. The unit takes a small charge trickle feed to charge a battery, which in turn can transform that into a supply that can run site (the current supply is taking 32amp charge and powering 164amp (26%).
Ordinarily for that size of a supply a generator would be required – so far by using this they have saved approximately 157, 553 litres of diesel and 413 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The tariff used to provide this power is also a ‘green’ tariff where additional monies are paid to offset the carbon from the electricity use
The battery is powering two cranes, two twin hoists, nine mast climbers and all site temporary electric. The AMPD will continue to power the site until the permanent electrics are in place.
