The project team, using as built information and record photos of the installation, were able to identify the original method for installation, which while this could not be recreated allowed them to develop a concept to remove the glazing from within the building, using a variety of hoisting methods.

They finalised a bespoke recovery method, which successfully allowed them to remove the glazing to all levels, on time and without incident.

Originally they conceived that the only way to safely remove the glazing, was to encapsulate the building with scaffolding, however, given the unique shape of the building, particularly where the building arcs away above level 04, they quickly realised that installing the scaffolding was going to present a challenge which would have presented quite a premium.

This approach while carried out fully in the public eye, reduced cost and improved on safety by reducing personnel working at height and delivered on time.
