Alcohol Awareness

To tie in with the update of the Drugs and Alcohol Policy, Bank Station Capacity Upgrade held an interactive Alcohol Awareness Event. This included a presentation consisting of: Calorie Consumption, Contractual Requirements, Unit Awareness and the Consequences of Alcohol Abuse.

Several games with prizes were played to highlight the reason for the Drug and Alcohol Policy including: ‘Guess the Units’ – BSCU produces a guidance document highlighting that no more than 7 units of alcohol should be consumed in the 24 hours before starting work. It was clear however; that many people on the project did not know exactly what a unit consisted of.

The game included filling several empty bottles with coloured water and getting people to pour a single unit. Often people would significantly underestimate what a unit would be. Another game played was ‘Beer Goggle Bowling’ and ‘Beer Goggle Catch’ which highlighted the need for the Drugs and Alcohol Policy by showing the participants how significantly alcohol effects perception and ability to do your job safely, whether you are on site or not.

Overall it was a very successful event that ensured that the Drug and Alcohol Policy updates were fully understood and provided awareness for our workforce to improve their overall health and wellbeing.
