Alleviating Overcrowding of the London Underground from Construction Workers During Peak Hours

Recently senior members of UKCG met with Transport for London to discuss the increasing burden that construction workers are having on the London Underground system during peak hours.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan had sent a clear message that, unless the industry can find a way to not travel on the underground during peak hours there is a strong possibility that construction in London could be shut down.

Therefore to act on this Wates’ London Construction board met the following day via teams to discuss this.

Following this meeting they have decided that with immediate affect all Wates Construction sites in London will now not open until 9.30am and then follow a shift pattern to avoid peak underground hours at the end of the day also.

It is hoped that other companies are considering similar or will follow suit and hopefully this will greatly assist with movements of key workers and assist with bringing the ‘R’ number down.
