Taylor Woodrow BAM Nuttall JV, working at the Victoria Station Upgrade Project, have been subject to strict noise and vibration control measures so that the sensitive rail control rooms, within the Network Rail building and the London Underground station, can continue operating without disruption from the project.

The team needed to break out next to this sensitive receptor, so the team had to seek alternative methods to breaking out the structure in that location.

Instead of using traditional methods of breaking, such as saw cutting the extents of the sump and breaking down in stages using hand held breakers, the team sourced a solution called Sylentmite that has the ability to split concrete without the need for high impact breaking.

Eliminating the need to use plant/ breakers, the team reduced the noise and vibration impact in the locality and, thus, nuisance to Network Rail and London Underground operations.

Benefits:

  • Environmentally friendly;
  • No vibration to operatives;
  • No noise or vibration nuisance to stakeholders/sensitive receptors;
  • Non-explosive;
  • Non-flammable.
