Apprentices Talk at a Careers Fair

Members of the Leeds Public Transport Improvement Programme (LPTIP) attended Leeds apprenticeship recruitment fair on Monday 3 February.

The annual fair attracts young people from ages 14 onwards and is a great place to find out more about what options are available for those who don’t want to go to university.

This year, the event was attended by 6,123 delegates and the John Sisk & Son stand attracted many people throughout the event. With a focus on apprenticeships in quantity surveying, engineering and site management, the team spoke to around 300 people during the event.

Two of our apprentices, Catarina Neves and Josef Fisher-Pedley, attended the event and spoke to parents and children alike.

Josef said: “I’m doing my apprenticeship in engineering, which I’m really enjoying, and it was great to speak to people about my role. I spoke to a lot of younger people about what subjects they should study and what grades to aim for. A lot of the parents who were attending with their children appreciated me talking about my role and how I’m finding it.”

Catarina, who’s completing an apprenticeship in business administration, also spoke to many people during the event and said, “It was really interesting talking to people only a couple of years younger than me about their career options and how to get into an apprenticeship. I’d definitely recommend the fair to other people who want to learn while they earn.”
