Art students battle it out on site hoarding

Earlier this year, 50 Graphic Design and Foundation Diploma in Art and Design students from Coventry University braved the cold streets to take part in a war of the arts on our Fairfax Street, Coventry, multi-room site. The students worked as teams alongside a professional illustrator to create a themed illustration spanning across five of Winvic’s hoarding boards.

The ‘Art Battle’ consisted of five students taking possession of the hoarding for five minutes, before the next troop of students were sounded in to take their battle stations. The theme celebrated 50 years of exhibitions at Coventry University’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The aftermath of the battle saw the hoarding exhibiting a creative clash of gold and black individual art pieces unite.

This pilot project was a result of Winvic’s continued support of the Considerate Constructors Scheme. We reached out to local education institutes to see if there was a way in which we could engage with the local community whilst the construction of the 1,192 bedroom student accommodation scheme was underway.

This resulted in a successful ‘Art Battle’ with Coventry University that enabled Winvic to give the first year students the opportunity to exhibit their work in a more open and engaging environment as part of their course.

The completed ‘artwork’ has also improved the appearance of the site’s hoarding.
