Asphalt Surfacing Technique to Improve Longevity
The contractor used a surfacing technique that has not been used in the UK previously on a bridge resurfacing project.
The wearing course Asphalt matt was laid by ‘Paving in echelon’ which means using two Asphalt pavers working in tandem which meant they were able to lay the entire new bridge wearing course with no joints.
By laying the asphalt in this way it will hugely improve longevity of the Asphalt and eliminate the possibility of potholes occurring and the need for future maintenance.
The whole process was captured on drone footage and is being promoted in schools, colleges and universities.
