Assessing Plant Noise Levels

To ensure that noise levels do not exceed what is safe, site managers can introduce monitoring measures.

This can help to reduce disruption to the local community and ensure that the workforce are not exposed to dangerous noise levels.

Below is an example of how a site measured and monitored their noise levels:

  • Plant noise levels were assessed at operating levels on site with noise monitoring equipment, and compared with manufacturer’s ratings;
  • The differences were noted and a traffic light sticker system was used to make everyone aware of the actual noise levels;
  • These stickers made RAMS easier to review and made sure the appropriate PPE was worn at all times.
