To help the flow of traffic and the unloading of deliveries at BAM Construction’s Atlantic Square site in Glasgow, the team have created a one-way running lane on York Street.
The system has been set up to help with the following:
Being a busy city centre site, delivery and logistics management need to be well controlled. By extending the site perimeter, delivery vehicles can enter the loading bay, be unloaded and exit without the need to reverse.
York Street Traffic
The loading bay takes up part of a lane on York Street which is a one-way road. As the need for delivery vehicles to reverse is eliminated, traffic on York street is undisturbed giving a better flow of traffic and preventing a build-up of vehicles.
Control of Pedestrians
The crossing pedestrians are controlled by the gateman with the help of extendable barriers and flashing beacons, which are activated when vehicles are entering or exiting, creating an exclusion zone until the vehicle has left.
