Barnardo’s Building Hope

Barnardo’s is working with the construction industry to support and transform the lives of vulnerable young people through its Building Hope programme. This is an ambitious project empowering young care leavers and supporting them to develop skills and gain access to further training or employment in the construction sector.

Building Hope will be targeting young people leaving foster care, aged 17-25; with the programme initially being developed by Barnardo’s across the five South London boroughs of Croydon, Bromley, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.

The programme will provide comprehensive support to address care leavers’ complex needs, and help them prepare for employment and independence including supported accommodation and emergency housing, wraparound support and a training academy.

In working with us construction companies will be able to:

  • Directly impact the lives of young people, supporting them into further employment or training
  • Provide opportunities to drive social mobility, boosting the economic environment and developing a new early talent pipeline helping to address the skills gap within the construction industry
  • Offer employees an opportunity to engage and volunteer their time to support a meaningful project
  • Provide work experience, gift-in-kind and pro-bono support to develop the Building Hope ambition
  • Access additional commercial opportunities by committing to support your local community.
