Eliot Design & Build have made a commitment to install Bee Bricks in all of our developments and encourage our clients to include them in their specifications, starting with our current development at Widegates, near Looe in Cornwall.

Bee Bricks are designed and manufactured by Cornish company Green & Blue, using material consisting of up to 75% waste from the local china clay industry. They have the same dimensions as a standard brick meaning they can be built directly into a structure, and have specially created cavities at the front which offer a cosy and safe space for the bees to nest and lay their eggs. As solitary bees do not have a queen or honey to protect they are non-aggressive and therefore pose no threat to humans or pets.

It is our intention to install three Bee Bricks in each property on a South/South-East facing elevation, supported by bee-friendly planting and landscaping. In doing so we will be supporting a local company, using sustainable materials and leaving a lasting positive impression on the local bee population.
