Bespoke Article on Opportunities in the Built Environment for Local Sixth Form College

In a developing relationship with a sixth form college to one of its sites, this contractor identified an opportunity to write an inspiring guidance article to help students understand the opportunities available to them in the construction industry. This was published in the college’s fortnightly online careers newsletter.

The article was to open the students’ eyes to the huge range of roles they can consider in the built environment beyond the obvious of construction and MEP trades, including emerging opportunities in areas such as materials science, virtual reality and robotics.

Employability skills were also addressed, and the contractors specific apprentice and graduate programmes explained. Some of the young people currently on the programme were showcased with the subjects they studied at A level or degree level, to show the range of qualifications appropriate for working in construction.

Industry links were also provided to help the students look at other companies, opportunities and the industry as a whole.
