Mace’s LSE team partnered with the Abbey Centre in Westminster to develop a brand new long term employment programme to address a pertinent need in the local community.

There are over 20.6 million women in the UK’s working age population of which 2.9 million (14%) are from an ethnically diverse background. There is, however, a significant difference in the employment rates between white women (72.6%) and ethnically diverse women (55.8%).

Mace worked with the Abbey Centre to create the Women Off to Work CV Clinic workshops which was offered to 15 women from across Westminster supporting them into employment, entrepreneurship and vocational training.

Assia Donovan (Community Project Coordinator), from the Abbey Centre commented:

“The Mace team did an excellent presentation on interview skills and provided one-to-one support looking at ethnically diversewomen’s CVs, they helped some write a CV from scratch, and others improve and update their CVs.”

This programme differs from the existing models as it provides a long term sustainable model of community investment. After the success of our first CV Clinic, the Abbey Centre secured funding from the Big Lottery to employ a part-time employee and upscale this work to a wider community. Other unique features of this programme include a bespoke interview skills workshop and an individual skills matrix to identify participants’ areas of development.

Based on the feedback from this matrix, Mace further developed a Digital Skills based workshop. Mace staff volunteered and offered one-to-with with a participants and help them enhance their CV using Microsoft Word as well as showing them commonly used software.
