Billy Chip Scheme

As with many city centre projects, this contractor has encountered a requirement to manage rough sleeping in some of the ‘cubbies’ created by the scaffold and fire escapes.

As such when they now discover someone who needs to be moved on, given their presence is blocking a fire escape, instead of creating a situation of confrontation they utilise the Billy Chip scheme to turn it into a positive experience.

Through giving the person being moved on a Billy Chip, they are able to redeem it with a participating retailer such as Greggs to buy hot food and drinks. Given it does not have a ‘cash’ value it also prevents it’s use to be used for purchasing illicit substances or alcohol.
