Biometric Solutions for Security

The traditional signing in book has become an archaic method of knowing who is on site due to the potential for missing or wrong information. Biometric solutions vastly improve security as fingerprints are truly unique passwords, however, as construction sites aren’t the cleanest of environments, the Biosite system has been developed to be able to read and process a match on a low quality fingerprint.

When Winvic’s HSEQ Director watched a demonstration of the Access Control & Workforce Management solution, he was so enthused by its potential it was soon being trialled on Primark’s warehouse site in Thrapston and was subsequently rolled out across all Winvic sites in early 2017.

The system is more accurate than standard fingerprint scanners, facial recognition systems or conventional swipe card and PIN based identification systems because it allows people to access secure sites based on their own unique biometrics. It has many useful functions from performance monitoring and a reduction in paperwork to efficient people, traffic and data management.

Winvic uses the system in four different ways and at our Northampton head office. On sites, turnstiles and scanners are used or when site entrances change during a project, a tablet with a fingerprint reader and mobile turnstile is used.

Before starting work on site, each person must undertake an induction and the system’s online provision has streamlined this process. They watch a video, pre-populate data and are given a code, which is typed into the online portal giving them immediate access to all Winvic sites. Winvic is also using the solution in conjunction with our Wireless Fire Alarm and First Aid Call Points.
