Body Action Camera to Identify Safety Practices on Site

It can be hard to ascertain whether individuals on site are following safety procedures before it is too late. Sites should find ways to identify gaps in safety knowledge and act accordingly.

See the examples below for how one site achieved this:

  • A ‘life in your shoes’ campaign was introduced to monitor the day-to-day activities onsite, looking at what drives behaviour and any trends found between managers and supervisors and a variety of operatives from all trades. Individuals were asked to a wear a body action camera to track their daily activities on site.
  • It was found that, when first introduced, a majority of operatives and a handful of supply chain partner supervisors would just walk past a hazard.
  • The site acted on these findings and adopted the ‘don’t walk by approach’. Footage was reviewed again after the training and the difference was considerable.
  • After this initiative, the site noticed more cooperation on site with everyone helping each other by highlighting a potential hazard and or areas which could be improved and what has worked better on a previous job.
  • The improvement in site standards was noticeable and has changed the safety mindset of all onsite.
