As part of our Responsible Business Strategy, one of our commitments is to reduce the 3,000 tonnes of plastic waste that Mace generates each year. Plastic cups and bottles are just some of the products that we throw away every day and many of these are only used once. So the Mace team at Greenwich Square decided to source project branded re-usable water bottles from a social enterprise called ‘Give Me Tap’ for the entire workforce (500 people).

By sourcing the bottles from a social enterprise, rather than a traditional business, every bottle bought will provide five years of clean drinking water to a person in Ghana. By installing pumps in rural communities, this sees 500 people positively impacted in the long term outside of the project, improving the social and environmental wellbeing of that area.

In addition to the wider social benefits, the project is reducing its carbon footprint, single-use plastic and costs whilst improving its appearance and promoting the industry as one which is responsible. Whilst the bottles were less than £7.00 compared to £0.02 per plastic/paper cup, we estimate a saving of £2,912 and 300,000 cups over the course of the project.
