Budding Brunels

In collaboration with our client, the Construction Youth Trust and the adjacent construction site, BAM hosted a programme for young people to experience life in construction with some key activities carried out over three days.

The programme encouraged the young people, aged 16-18 years old to develop some skills they would need to work in construction, such as team building, communications and interview techniques. They met a number of different employees with varied backgrounds and were encouraged to ask questions to find out more about what they do, how they got into the job they do and what a typical day is like. During the programme, the visitors had site tours which included a project at groundworks stage and an almost complete, ready to handover, project.

The programme includes an afternoon focus on industry networking, group activities including tower building and master planning and designated time for stakeholder engagement, presentation panel and interviews. The young people were given advice as how they can get into the industry, including methods of communication and any study options available.

The feedback received was positive from all involved; the young people were given a better insight into the world of work and opportunities available to them working within the construction industry.
