Built Environment Academy

The Built Environment Academy (BEA) was founded in 2021 by a group of like-minded individuals and companies working on a National Highways Framework. Balfour Beatty, Costain, Graham, Kier and Volker Fitzpatrick came together to work with Learn Live UK to promote careers in the built environment.

The mission is to bring the industry together and work collaboratively to close the skills gap through engaging young people at all stages of the educational lives, influencing them to start a career in the built environment and making them ready to enter the industry when they leave school, college, or university. To the end of 2023, they had engaged over 100,000 young people and provided +100 work placements and have 45 member companies.

In 2024, the chair of the BEA joined the Considerate Constructors Scheme and working with industry the aim is to engage ½ million young people per year, facilitate +1,000 work placements and increase retention of young people entering the industry from related courses by the year 2030.

Companies wishing to join BEA are not charged and are asked to support monthly meetings, provide industry expertise and volunteers to help deliver the variety of activities that we are involved in. You can contact the Built Environment Academy here.
