Careers Advice ‘Speed Dating’

It is important to communicate the advantages of a career in construction to school pupils. New ways of sharing careers advice can help maintain young people’s interest in the subject and encourage them to consider construction roles.

See the examples below for how one site achieved this:

  • One of the senior school visits involved the equivalent of a ‘Speed dating’ event, which was a timed opportunity to question various professionals and trades on aspects of their job for 3 minutes on a 1 to 1 basis.
  • Each pupil then moved on to the next person after 3 minutes.
  • This is a far more effective way of communicating careers advice than a length talk to a large group of students.
