CASE STUDY: CRASH Helps North Yorkshire Hospice Meet Local Community’s Needs

Herriot Hospice was gifted a former NHS Hospital building, The Lambert, following its decommission in 2015.

The Hospice applied to construction industry charity, CRASH for help transforming the former cottage hospital into a modern hospice building that will offer in-patient care to two rural North Yorkshire communities.

The Project

CRASH visited The Lambert alongside Corporate Patron Arcadis in 2020 and issued a report outlining the hospices next best steps for refurbishment and conversion of their impressive building, the oldest parts of which were constructed in the late 1800’s.

As the design developed CRASH Corporate Patrons Dulux Decorator Centre, JNP Group, Kingspan and Supporter, Johnson Tiles were able to assist.

Following the refurbishment, the following benefits have been realised for the hospice.

  • High quality and patient-focused care will be available closer to home for local people, providing choice and control at a time when it can feel like this has been taken away.
  • The Lambert will offer a hub for specialist palliative care, education and bereavement support in a place that is accessible and sustainable for the long term.
  • The new hospice has the capacity to offer training, helping to upskill local healthcare professionals, and ensuring people can receive outstanding care across the community.

Total value of support from CRASH, Corporate Patrons and supporters for this project was £42,855.
