As part of our longer term resource planning, we have made a commitment to Apprenticeships across the business. Our current Apprentices extend across our engineering/design teams, business support and commercial teams, providing valuable local career opportunities for people.
Each Apprentice is assigned a personal mentor close to their point of work so they can support and advise on day to day activities. Beyond that, Apprentices are supported by line managers and the wider team as they undertake one day a week college based learning, with associated assignments. Some of our Apprentices are already giving back and have become involved in our STEM Ambassador Activities in local schools.
As part of celebrating our Apprentices, we captured their feedback via a series of interviews during National Apprenticeship Week.
We shared their comments and feedback with the wider business and through a series of tweets. Comments included:
“I had dropped out of college and hadn’t got any prospects but now thanks to A-one+ I have independence, stability and I am learning all the time. I am also preparing to pass my driving test.”
“I was working in a shoe shop. Now I allocate costs and prepare invoices. I have implemented a new system for managing the paperwork, all my idea too.”
“I am learning new things everyday, building my technical knowledge, getting involved in proper projects and my communication skills have improved.”
As part of our ongoing commitment, we have further Apprentices starting later this year, which will take the number of Apprentices in our design team to 10.
