CIC 2050 Group

The CIC 2050 group was set up, in 2010, to encourage ‘speed mentoring’ events, enabling young professionals throughout various construction trades to ‘pick the brains’ of industry elders.

Sites could implement the same initiative, as part of the recruitment ‘drive’ to encourage more young people into the industry, with site managers imparting their knowledge and expertise to other members of the workforce.

The CIC group look forward to what they would like the construction industry to be like in the future; focusing primarily on 2020-2050.

One pilot event was held in London, in May 2014 and hailed a great success, by those that participated.

  • A group of potential future industry leaders were each given a 15-minute one-on-one meeting, with a diverse gathering of senior figures from companies such as Skanska, Gardiner & Theobald, Arup, WSP, EC Harris and Atkins;
  • Their aims are to share knowledge and information, as well as environmental initiatives.

Sites need more skilled workers, as they implement the use of more technical and advanced equipment. This type of initiative could attract a much higher calibre of candidate applying for roles, or encourage members of the workforce to develop their own potential.
