On this project they have been using a cold applied waterproofing system called Integritank for their below ground waterproofing.
This system is a structural waterproofing membrane for the protection of concrete structures and is applied using a multiple pass spray method to ensure an even coating which doesn’t slump after application.
The contractor maintains that the health and safety risk of cold applied in comparison to hot applied is a significant factor in the preference of a cold applied solution. Wherever possible, hot works should be avoided or reduced as a general principal and to avoid the risk of bitumen burns.
Applied Integritank weighs approximately 3kg/m2 versus a hotmelt system ranging between 9-14kg/m2 which will amount to a 20% volumetric saving. Integritank can be transported via a standard van whereas, depending on the hotmelt system a lorry may be required.
