Community Cleanliness and Security

There are ongoing issues with dustbins, dumping of household rubbish and fly-tipping, but the project team, in collaboration with the local council, takes the bins to the top of the road each morning for the main collection, and informs the council of fly-tipping and hygiene issues as a matter of priority, to keep the area clean and healthy for the local community.

Security is a matter of concern for the residents in this high-density area, which has a known low level of employment. CCTV cameras have been installed, with funding from Thames Water to provide local residents with the assurance that they and their properties are safer than before.

The project team consistently works to provide answers to the many questions of how to engage with a predominantly non-English speaking community in this overcrowded area. To date, their efforts have been rewarded with a greatly reduced level of resistance and a much better level of engagement. The project team’s work will continue on this basis until their task is complete.
