Congestion Monitoring

An solution to monitoring the impact of traffic management on the road network has been implemented by this contractor. This solution uses crowd sourced data (phones, satellite navigation systems and other digital devices) to enable live and historic monitoring of traffic through a particular road or lane closure. Reports can be produced to show the historic trends of traffic as well as generating real time alerts should the levels of congestion reach any predetermined thresholds.

The data for the congestion is provided by crowd sources and is therefore entirely portable allowing you to monitor the M25 one day and a local road the next.

This software allows them to accurately demonstrate to their client the real effect of their traffic management on road users by constantly measuring congestion, total travel time through the traffic management and average speed.

Reports can be automatically generated by the software to show the recorded data for any specified period in a user-friendly format. To make this more effective it also has adaptive technology which allows you learn repeated traffic patterns and create anticipated journey times, this reduces the alerts being generated in conditions that become predictable.
