‘Connecting Our People’ Initiative

A considerate employer cares about the wellbeing of their workforce. This includes providing welfare facilities, ensuring health and safety, and fostering a welcoming site community. Many sites have initiatives to improve team working and reinforcing social interaction between operatives.

See the examples below for this site’s innovative approach to workforce interaction:

  • The ‘Connecting Our People’ initiative requires everyone to complete a sticky label with their name, employer and interests.
  • The labels are then put on a large board in the security/sign in office where the morning briefings are held.
  • Links are then drawn on the board joining up people who have similar interests, enabling operatives to find out more about their coworkers and put similar-minded people in contact.
  • The initiative has been a success, in one instance connecting operatives whose children play football with an operative who runs a children’s football team in his spare time.

Identifying these common interests and helping workers find out more about each other encourages social interaction. This improves teamwork and makes the site a better place to work for all involved.
