Involving members of the community promotes an integrated and considerate environment.

Members of the community should feel included and considered when their local area is being affected by the works. Companies should therefore make the effort to collaborate with community members. This can be beneficial for both the site and the community.

One site achieved this through the following examples:

  • The project has eight Construction Captains selected from the future occupants of the Kingston Academy (they are currently housed in temporary portacabins);
  • These pupils carry out a monthly visit, report to the school council and produce an article for the newsletter;
  • Additionally a specific subject is chosen, the most recent was environment, and pupils carry out a presentation on the subject at a school assembly (Learn and Teach);
  • The specific subject covered was the Dulux Envirowash system, covered the recycling of water and the use of water-based paints;
  • A presentation was given which included pictures of the process and how the waste product was put into jelly moulds which were then distributed to the school for decoration.
