Construction Rocks

Kent based firm Walker Construction teamed up with their community, including a local Primary school to produce their 2018 Christmas video.

For the last few years the construction sector headlines have been consumed by the ever-growing skilled worker gap. The threat of Brexit facing the labour workforce, and a lack of interest in construction careers amongst today’s teens have resulted in a confusing and negative image for our industry.

The latest forecast by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) for the trade in the UK estimated an annual average growth rate of 1.3%, which means the industry will need to recruit 158,000 construction workers across different trades each year for the next five years.

Walker Construction have spent the last few years visiting schools, launching a new apprenticeship scheme, starting a new inclusion and diversity programme, but the team felt they could do more. Inspired by the big retailers in the Christmas advert wars, Walker Construction came up with a new way to promote construction, and inspire a new generation.

From the rocking Directors, to the festive school rap, this video has it all.

Plus in the spirit of the Christmas, the Directors have pledged to make a donation to local charities for every share made of the video.
