Contributing to the community through the local academy

Being mindful of the local community is one of the key areas we concentrate on whilst our project is in build. I therefore took the opportunity to meet with the local Academy School which is adjacent to the site to discuss projects that both Westleigh and the School could partake in together.

The Academy were welcoming of this and took this opportunity to boost the skills of their dedicated art department for Year 7 through to Year 13.

We welcomed eight art students and two school representatives with an open but safe site to facilitate their photography skills. We accompanied them around different areas of the site allowing them to photograph anything from mobile plant to the bolts of a scaffold tube. We also set up a stair scaffold for them to enter first and second scaffold lift to extend their landscape photography.

Following this we have arranged a competition for both key stages of the school and will be providing vouchers and an artistic camera for the art department to help them with the students of the future and their photography. This will be presented by Westleigh in the school assembly circa October 2016.

We are privileged that we will be temporarily given artwork to place on our hoarding for the general public to view and it’s with great honour to showcase these talents in a form of a digitally created art poster and a graffiti board of our site.
