Cored Holes

There was a requirement for 2 circular 650mm diameter penetrations in the corridor on levels B3, B2 and B1 of the Fisher Street shaft to allow for supply and extract spiral ductwork to pass through.

In order to ensure a safer install, better quality finish/ setting out and to eliminate the potential for the circular box-outs to fail, CSJV decided to trim the reinforcement for the penetrations ensuring the correct cover is accounted for and then pour the full section of slab. They were also surveyed so the exact position of the trimmed rebar was recorded.

This meant the elimination of any hole fall/ leading edge risk until closer to the time when the penetrations were required for the ductwork install.

It also ensured there was an accurate and good quality finish to the penetrations. The concrete was cored ensuring the setting out was correct so as not to encroach on any reinforcement.
