Creating a Butterfly Hotel with Help from the Community
The McAleer & Rushe site team at New Waverley in Edinburgh created a green living space and biodiversity wall with the Royal Mile Primary School and the Royal Edinburgh Botanical Gardens. Together, they built a Bee and Butterfly Hotel. Pupils from the school helped to plant flowers in the green space and learned all about different pollinators which encourage bees and butterflies from the Urban Biodiversity Project Officer from the Botanical Gardens.
This initiative was completed in conjunction with ‘A Square Metre for Butterflies’. This is a scheme where companies are encouraged to devote one square metre to butterfly and caterpillar food plants and nectars.
Edinburgh is the UK’s greenest city, so it was fantastic to add more green space and promote biodiversity! This project was not only good fun to work on, but also demonstrates our commitment to enhancing the environment and community by educating local children to ensure our green spaces are upheld for future generations.
