Our site team wanted to engage the community and also raise awareness of environmental issues while working throughout their properties. However, since we had a limited sized compound we were unsure how to most effectively achieve this.
That is when we created the ‘Wates Bee Board’. The board included information about bees’ effect on our ecology, details of their life cycle and fun facts on them.
The board also made reference to why the bee is a symbol for Manchester and showed how its importance to the city has developed due to recent events. I wanted to encourage a positive and pro-active attitude amongst our tenants on how they could get involved.
We included ‘spot the bee’ posters, seedlings plants in recycled yoghurt pots and free seeds for bee-friendly, bee society approved plants.
Tenants were able to help themselves to any of these. We also put up lavender around the site as bees love the colour purple!
It was a really simple way to cheer tenants and staff coming to and from site and get the community involved.
