Creating Public Interest and Insight to Construction for Young Adults with Learning Difficulties

Camerons have been appointed to construct a large scale development in Jersey, Channel Islands. The development sits in a very prominent location on St Helier sea front which has made the project controversial. From day one the development has had a lot of public interest, particularly the tower-crane that has become almost a landmark in Jersey.

To address public interest we invited a local ITV news crew to film a report that addressed most frequently asked questions about the project.

The report was aired on local evening news, it had a lot of positive feedback and also became the most re-tweeted report from the reporter.

Another community initiative we carried out was a day on site for young adults with learning difficulties through Jersey Employment Trust Charity who specialise in helping individuals with learning difficulties to find work.

The aim of the initiative was to demonstrate career opportunities and trades available in the construction industry with hands on experience as we believe this is more meaningful than a PowerPoint presentation to individuals.

We arranged for each individual to spend an hour with different trades throughout the day under Camerons and the Jersey Employment Trust’s supervision. We also had the initiative incorporated in our ITV news report.
