Creating work experience and apprenticeship opportunities – skills academies

Providing work experience opportunities can be extremely valuable, to encourage people with varying skills and backgrounds into the industry.

It is essential that the industry as a whole encourages new people into construction and provides sufficient training and support, which allows them to succeed.

Local trade contractors, suppliers and businesses should also be given opportunities and employed on site, if possible.

CITB skills academies help to create apprenticeship, work placements and training opportunities:

  • There are 34 CITB Skills Academies in the UK;
  • These can help to create apprenticeship places on site;
  • They can also provide work placements to local schools, colleges and The Prince’s Trust;
  • The academies can provide NVQ training for sub-contractors.
