Cycle Safety Day for University Students

Education of cyclists about their interaction with delivery lorries was taken to the next level at the cycle safety day which this site ran for the benefit of University students.

Using the technology that Google use to capture information to create street view, a recording was made of a delivery vehicle’s journey from the M40 through Oxford city centre to the site.

This has enabled students to use a virtual reality (VR) headset to get a driver’s eye view of cyclists’ actions. There were a significant number of inappropriate actions which were out of control of the vehicle’s driver.

This brought to life the issues in an attention grabbing format, being more dynamic than just sitting in the lorry cab to appreciate a driver’s view.
