Cycle Scheme to Facilitate Transport Between Sites

Innovative methods to minimise your sites carbon footprint should be actively sought.

Many large projects have a number of sites working simultaneously, requiring operatives and management to regularly travel to and visit various sites, thus transport between sites is a necessity, often increasing the sites carbon footprint.

In response to these requirements and increasing environmental problem, many sites have introduced a cycle scheme, to facilitate transport between sites:

  • Three branded bikes were introduced, with branded cycle safety kit, which was worn by all who signed up to the scheme;
  • One site averaged around 720 miles per month in this way, significantly reducing their carbon footprint;
  • Panniers were installed on the bikes, allowing tools and documents to be carried easily;
  • The project manager has drawn up RAMS for the use of the bikes, which have been approved by the CDMC, (operatives and managers read and sign the RAMS prior to use).
