Biosite Systems partnered with Costain Skanska Joint Venture (CSJV) to deliver a bespoke workforce and competency management technology solution for the HS2 enabling works programme that led to an unprecedented 0% non-conformances reported at internal audit.
CSJV recognised the need for a sophisticated technology solution, to ensure total visibility of the almost 3,500 active workforce. Managing a highly transient workforce is particularly challenging on a linear project with multiple sites, where it’s not possible to have a fixed access point. CSJV had a combination of closed and linear sites, requiring a flexible, bespoke solution to effectively manage their needs, no matter the perimeter considerations.
Biosite developed a bespoke mobile workforce and competency management solution to capture operative data at multiple points, via multiple devices including tablets, mobile apps or cards. This meant that any skills gaps could be quickly identified at project and group level and the system could recommend other operatives on site that had the appropriate skills to help fill those gaps, as well as identify upcoming training requirements.
The system was deployed at all 21 CSJV sites – and was integrated with existing systems to maximise efficiency and performance, whilst reducing potential conformance issues.
All qualifications were stored safely and securely in one place, online, to ensure visibility and traceability, with a tailored reporting suite to generate real-time insight to enable CSJV to make informed business decisions.
The success of the solution – leading to 100% conformance – resulted from the close collaboration between Biosite and CSJV.
